Unsung Heroes: Part Four

Good morning beautiful human, happy Thursday! Thank you for spending part of your morning with me. Welcome to Life with Lane!

I want to say thank you again to everyone for the all the support and sweet comments about Dusty! It means so much to me and having people understand what I am going through makes me stronger. Thank you for your empathy and reading my story about my sweet little fluffy adorable Schnoodle!

He was so happy and Onyx wasn’t having it! lol

Today is the last day of February, the last day of Black History Month. Which means for me this is my last post dedicated to unsung heroes! Today I am shining a bright light on Florence Griffith Joyner. She’s not an unsung hero, but she was my hero as a child! I wanted to be her. She represented everything I loved when I was a child.

Flo-Jo

Florence Griffith Joyner, mostly known as Flo-Jo, was the fastest woman alive. She was my hero. I ran track when I was in middle and high school and I wanted to be her, lol! Not to talk to much about myself but I was pretty good! I ran the 100 and 200 yards dash. I did the high and long jump, and I did the last leg of the 400. At the time, running was all that I loved.

Now, back to my childhood hero! Although she passed away twenty years ago she is still considered the fastest woman ever! She set the world record in 1988 for the 100 meter and the 200 meter dash.

It wasn’t just her speed that I admired, it was her entire being. She wore these amazing track outfits and she had these incredibly long fingernails. She was absolutely beautiful and she looked so classy. I was in complete awe.

Florence Griffith Joyner! She was amazing

Her increase in speed was so unusual that she was often thought to have used performance enhancement drugs but none were ever found in her system. Years after she retired she had endorsement deals with clothing and cereal. She was fantastic. Tragically she died at the age of 38 in her sleep. She suffocated during an epileptic seizure. Absolutely heartbreaking.

If you have time, read up on her, and watch videos of her run. Its something kind of spectacular. She was like the human version of Secretariat, lol! She never started out from behind though but watching her run was unlike anything else.
