Not What I Wanted to Hear

Life with Lane: Not What I Wanted to Hear

Years ago, I dated this guy and his father was a bishop. Whenever he had issues he never wanted to go to this father for advice. I often wondered why but I never asked him. One day I said to him, “Why don’t you ever ask your father for advice? I feel like he would be the best person to get advice from because he’s a bishop, he knows the bible, etc.”

He looked at me and said, “That is exactly why I don’t ask him. He’s going to give me advice from the bible and I don’t always want to hear that. Sometimes I need to hear worldly advice and him talking to me from experience.” I completely understood what he meant. How often has this happened to you? I know we can find almost all answers to our issues in the bible but not everyone believes in the bible. Quite frankly, that isn’t what we always want to hear.

Do you hear what I hear? Do you hear what I hear? A song,a song, high above the trees with a voice as big as the sea, with a voice as big as the sea. Imagine that when you read this I sound just like Whitney Houston. Okay now read it again. Can you what it? I have a beautiful voice

We can always get a better solution from someone who has experienced the same issues in past and who can really understand how we feel. When we need an advice, it’s not “facts” that we are looking for. We are looking for some great solution which is practical and specific for the problem.

I must agree that there is some truth to what he said. I also have a friend who kinda expressed the same thing. That’s why I pray that all of us can somehow connect the truths of the Bible and what it says into our everyday lives, not making it sound so difficult to grasp or even try doing. Even I sometimes tend to forget this. I love the honesty of this post. Not everyone can admit the same thing.🙂

Experience is good only if someone went through the same process, but example is better when someone hasn’t been through the experience, hence, the need to cite biblical exponents.
I understand your dates perspective. Sometimes we need real life experiences from our advisers.
