Why is it different for us?

Good morning beautiful humans, happy Tuesday! Thank you for spending part of your morning with me or evening depending on where you live in this great big world today! Welcome to Life with Lane; my life through words, pictures, and food! Come on in………..

When I say why is it different for us? I mean my people, black people! What am I referring to? Speaking out, having and being confident, using our platforms, etc……..

As I wrote yesterday, the NFL draft was this past weekend. There were a lot of debates about Shedeur Sanders. He’s the son of legendary Deion Sanders. He was expected to go in the first round but he wasn’t drafted until the 5th. It was actually pretty crazy.

Apparently people didn’t like him because he was confident and outspoken. His confidence apparently rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. I find this absurd. When is having confidence a bad thing? I know why, it’s because he’s a young black man.

Years ago when Kobe Bryant spoke out, he was told to shut up a dribble. When LeBron James stands up for black people and uses his platform they tell him to just play ball and stop making everything political. When Colin K (not sure how to spell his last name) spoke out, he was blackballed from the NFL.

When Black/African Americans talk about issues we have here in America, the first thing white people do is tell us to go back to Africa! Silence is what they want! The moment to speak up, have confidence it’s a problem!

Why aren’t we allowed to be CONFIDENT?
