Today is World Mental Health Day! I wanted to make sure I posted for this. Why? Mental health is so very important and its something we don’t talk about enough. We especially don’t talk about it enough in my community; the black/African american community.
I feel like my people think embarrassing to talk about mental health and just say pray about it and leave it alone. I’m a firm believer in prayer, God, and Jesus. However, not everyone believes in that. Also, that’s not how life works all the time. You have to do more than pray!
There’s nothing embarrassing about mental health. There’s nothing wrong with seeking help. There’s nothing wrong with needing medicine or therapist! Life is hard and we all have problems. Taking care of our mental health is just as important as our physical and spiritual health. Maybe even moreso.
Take care of yourself and your mental health. Also, be mindful of others and the words you speak. You never know what others are going through. Life is hard, be kind to one another!
