Good morning beautiful humans, happy Wednesday! We’ve made it through half of the week. Man, it’s been quite the week and we’re only halfway finished. Thank you for stopping by my blog. Come on in……..
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know what happened to George Floyd. He’s the African American man who was killed when that officer held his knee on his neck for almost nine minutes. If you haven’t seen the video I encourage you to watch it. Its upsetting and it will hurt your heart. The saddest part, which is the entire video is him calling out his mother’s name as he was dying 🥺🥺. I’m holding back tears now, my God we live in a sad world.
I wanted to talk to guys about how long nine minutes is. I wanted to list somethings that can be done in nine minutes. It will give you a perspective on how long George Floyd suffered when that cops knee was on his neck. How long he was in and out of suffocation. How long he was traumatized.
The world record for the fastest mile is held by a man named Hicham El Guerrouj. His time is 3:43:13. The world record for the fastest time by a woman is held by Sifan Hassan. The time is 4:12:13
So, Hicham, who holds the record for the fastest mile could have ran 2.5 miles during the time George Floyd was pinned down by his neck. Sifan could have ran just over 2 miles. These are people running on foot. Can you imagine the horror and the pain George Floyd felt during those almost 9 minutes? This man’s final moments were caught on film. Such a horrific way to die 🥺. My heart is broken. My emotions are all over the place. Anger is what I feel the most right now though.
George Floyd could’ve been my uncle, cousin, my brother, or my Dad. He was someone’s family member. He mattered to someone. He was murdered like he was nothing. His life was not valued.
Those nine minutes of him being held down should forever be in our minds. His death started a movement we haven’t seen on years. I’m not a person who thinks everything happens for a reason. However, in this case I think it did. His death has opened alot of people’s eyes that refused to see what was right in front of them before. There are protest happening in all 50 states now and across the world.
Nine minutes started a civil rights movement across the globe. George Floyd, we won’t let your death be in vain.
